Located in the southeastern area of Guizhou Province, Kaili is one of the major central cities in Guizhou province. It is the center of the Qiandongnan region and is located about 190 km east of Guiyang, the capital of Guizhou.

Kaili is often called a “City of Festivals”. Various minorities, each preserving their own customs and traditions, populate the city. Minority people in Guizhou celebrate over 1,000 festivals during the course of a year, with songs, dance, and local food as major festival components. The majority of the population in Kaili is represented by Miao ethnic minority who have lived here for centuries.

Apart from rich history, culture, and ancient architecture, Kaili boasts its natural landscapes, karst landform, and picturesque views. It is home to beautiful mountains, lakes, caves, and rivers.
